Bimetallic platinum/iridium modified mesoporous catalysts applied in the hydrogenation of HMF

Catalytic transformation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to produce 2,5-dimethylfuran (2,5-DMF) was studied over bimetallic (PtIr) and monometallic (Pt) catalysts supported on CMK-3 SBA-15 mesoporous materials. The optimum temperature hydrogen pressure for the maximum production 2,5-DMF were 120 °C 15 atm, respectively. Increases in decreased selectivity 2,5-DMF. broadly characterized by different techniques, such as XRD, N2-isotherms, XPS, TPR, TEM NH3-TPD. It found that metallic particles well reduced highly dispersed surface supports having large area narrow pore size distribution. PtIr alloy species catalytic sites very active selective towards formation desired PtIr-CMK-3 catalyst showed an excellent activity, stability be applied this process.
